The
Centre is situated in St Paul's Church on the edge of the attractive
Chester Green – one of the earliest public spaces in Derby
Opening
times Sunday afternoons 2pm to 4.30pm April to end of October
Admission
is free with donations greatly appreciated
Volunteers
from the Local History Group staff the Centre. They will be happy
to arrange for Group visits and guided walks around the area at
other times

by school and other children's groups eg Brownies are welcomed

Come
and explore 2000 years of military, social, industrial and political
history. The rich heritage of this attractive conservation area
from Roman to recent times is illustrated in displays models and
exhibits including:
Model Iron-age Village
Roman Occupation
Anglo-Saxon burials
Road and rail development
Industrial heritage
Local life in peace and war
Well dressings
Life scale figures of a Roman soldier, a Roman Official, an
Anglo-Saxon woman and a Victorian Lady.
Activities
for Children's Group visits would include opportunities for the
children to dress up in Roman and Victorian costumes. Also to hear
recordings of a ‘Roman citizen' describing his visit to the local
fort and a ‘Victorian lady' telling about her visit to Chester Green.
Special
themed exhibitions and slide shows are arranged during the opening
